Every year West Bengal Public Service Commission(WBPSC) conducts West Bengal Civil Service(WBCS) Exam to recruit eligible candidates for the posts of the state Government Group-A and Group -B Services. The examination consists of two parts – (1) Written Examination and (2) Personality Test. Written Examination will be held in two successive stages, viz., (i) Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) and (ii) Main Examination (Both Objective and Conventional Type). A number of candidates to be selected on the results of the Preliminary Examination will be allowed admission to the Main Examination and a number of candidates to be selected on the results of the Main Examination will be called to appear at the Personality Test.

West Bengal Civil Service Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a screening test wherein a candidate has to secure qualifying marks for eligible for Main Examination. Every year around 2 lakh candidates appear for WBCS prelims, out of which around 13000 qualifies for mains and the end only around 500 candidates to crack highly dignified state civil services exam.
Cutoff of WBCS Preliminary Examination
The cut off of WBCS Preliminary Exam is the minimum qualifying marks that candidates need to secure to qualify for WBCS Main Exam.
Cutoff for WBCS Preliminary Examination is determined on the factors such as the number of candidates who sit for the examination, level of difficulty of examination, reservations, Candidate selection ratio for the respective stage- prelims, mains and interview, etc. Keeping in mind the convenience of the candidates, we are giving detailed cut-offs and the number of candidates qualified for the main exam of the previous year:

Expected cutoff of WBCS Preliminary Exam 2020
